Find out the results of the work Healthwatch Coventry did to ask local people what the local NHS should focus on. They ran two surveys and discussion groups in April- May this year.
People called for more timely and consistent communication; joint decision making, professionals that listen; and faster support when needed.
Cost; computer literacy, trust and access were seen as barriers to people accessing NHS services more by computer; internet; phone etc

Our apologies to Coventry Spires U3A – due to an error in the compilation of the September issue of ECHO, the information which appeared was from last year.
The correct information for this year’s Open Day is as follows:-
Coventry Spires U3A will be having an Open Day on Thursday 19 September at 2pm at St Barbara’s Church Hall, Rochester Road. If you are retired and looking for something worthwhile to fill your time, come and see their wide range of activities.
They have a meeting once a month with a speaker, and more than 20 sub-groups covering subjects ranging from educational to recreational, so there’s something for everyone.
At the Open Day you will find details of what they have to offer, plus you can have a go at table tennis!
Since the September issue of ECHO was printed, we have been shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely death of Rob Bills, owner of CV Nutrition in Albany Road. The business is featured, and Rob is quoted, on page 7 of this issue.
Rob died in a road traffic accident on Saturday 24 August on Grayswood Avenue.
A crowd funding site has been set up to support his family:
The diversion is to allow for gas pipe replacement work to be carried out.
Rochester Road will be closed at its junction with Beechwood Avenue. While the road is closed Service 5,in both directions, will divert via Shaftsbury Road.
Rochester Road and the Beechwood Avenue/Rochester Road bus stop will not be served.
Alternative bus stops are at
• Radcliffe Road
• Beechwood Avenue (Hartington Crescent bus stop and temporary bus stop opposite)
ECHO needs a volunteer to assist in managing our advertisers list. No specific skills are needed – just the willingness to spend a little time each month answering and sending emails, checking with advertisers on their requirements for repeat or new adverts, following up interest from potential new advertisers, and passing on requests to the ECHO team members who create the artwork for the small number of advertisers who don’t provide their own.

The first phase of work on improvements to Coventry railway station – a new footbridge and improvements to the existing platform canopies – has begun. A second station building with shops, new multi-storey car park and a ticket office, as well as a bus interchange on the Central Six side, will follow soon.
Piling works are currently taking place on Warwick Road. The piling forms part of the foundations for the new station building and will allow the opening of the access tunnel under Warwick Road, connecting the new building to the bus interchange.
As part of the work, it will be necessary to close the steps on Warwick Road and the walkway from the station to the car park at Central Six. The closure will take place from Monday 5 August and pedestrians will need to walk down Warwick Road, past Eaton House – the tower block – and access the station past the new Council building.
From 5 August, 12 disabled car parking spaces will also be relocated from the station forecourt to the existing multi storey car park no.1, which can be accessed via Station Square.
Finally, the cycle shelter closest to the platform in the short stay car park area will be moved to a temporary location in front of the station while the work is carried out. There is also an undercover cycle hub located near to the British Transport Police.

National Express Coventry are conducting a consultation on possible bus route changes to be implemented in September. This would be the first major revision of services for 7 years. Routes affected, serving Earlsdon, Chapelfields, Spon End and Hearsall Common could include the numbers 5, 10, 11, 18, 19 and 23. However some of these changes may only affect parts of these routes around the city centre and where the route continues beyond the city centre.
