Cabling Work Progresses
The contractors working for Western Power Distribution have completed the directional drilling from Beechwood Avenue under Kenilworth Road and into the War Memorial Park and they are now in the process of connecting the ducts. The one lane closure and diversion at that junction should now be removed by 23 February. The next phase of the cabling works, the pulling of the cables through the ducting from Hearsall Common through the War Memorial Park is due to take place during March but as yet no dates are available. Further update information will be published in the March issue, on our Facebook page and here on our website.

GODIVA FESTIVAL 2018 DATES ANNOUNCED
The Godiva Festival, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is moving to a new date this summer.
Festival organisers today announced the event will this year be held in the War Memorial Park from 31 August to 2 September. Contrary to what people may have heard on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, this is NOT the August Bank Holiday Weekend, it is a week after that.
The move is a result of last week’s announcement that Coventry has been chosen as the English host for BBC Music presents The Biggest Weekend on 27 and 28 May.
That would give less than six weeks until the traditional Godiva weekend in July and organisers said the park will need time to recover so it can be at its best to welcome the crowds who flock to the Festival every year.
With the dates now set, event organisers are hard at work scheduling bands and programming the weekend.
People can keep up to date with the latest news for Godiva Festival 2018 by following @godivafestival on Twitter and Facebook, or seeing www.godivafestival.com
Any businesses or potential sponsors looking to be a part of the event, should contact the Council’s Marketing Team on 024 7683 2466, and anyone looking to book a food, charity, craft or promotional stall should use www.godivafestival.com to register their interest.
Gas Works
Starting Friday 9 February there will be temporary parking and traffic arrangements in the Rochester Road area to enable gas mains works to be carried out. Diversion routes will be signposted and the works are expected to take up to three months. The roads affected are Palmerston Road, Radcliffe Road, Rochester Road (between Radcliffe Road and Beechwood Avenue) and St. Andrew’s Road.
We hope to provide more details in the March issue of ECHO.
Mayfield Road HiMO Plan Reaction
Nearby residents are objecting strongly to a planning application to create a House in Multiple Occupation (HiMO) in Mayfield Road. The plan is to turn the premises at 47a Mayfield Road and 3 Mickleton Road from retail shop and dwelling into a 9 bedroom HiMO and extend the existing outbuilding at the first floor and convert it into 2 self contained one bedroom flats. The proposal would take another family home out of the community and add to the transient population as well as making the existing parking problems even worse. There is a petition at Wint’s Wines in Mayfield Road.
You can view the plans (ref. FUL/2017/3242) on the city council website www.coventry.gov.uk by going to the planning portal. If you wish to comment on these plans the deadline is very soon – Thursday 8 February
