BUS SERVICE UPDATE
BUTTS ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE
After it rapidly became clear that the closure of Butts Road outbound from the Ring Road junction 7 with effect from Monday 14 November was unworkable, Coventry City Council has instructed the contractors to re-open the road and devise an alternative plan to complete the planned works.
However only the left most lane is open, meaning that all traffic, turning left into Albany Road or heading straight on to Spon End, is confined to that lane.
As yet the re-routing of buses 1, 2, 6/6A and 18/18A has not been reversed.
Please see: https://nxbus.co.uk/coventry/service-updates for further updates.
Lengthy Road Closure and Buses Rerouted
With effect from today, Monday 14th November, it will not be possible to access Butts Road from the Ring Road junction 7. This restriction will apply for around 12 weeks while the remodelling of the junction is completed. The diversion will take drivers from junction 8 via Holyhead Road and Four Pounds Avenue. However access onto the Ring Road will be maintained, and the temporarily closed on/off slip roads will be reopened on the north side of the junction.
Bus route changes during this period are as follows:
No 1 and no 2 towards Coundon and Tile Hill South will be diverted via Warwick Road and Earlsdon Avenue South. Croft Road and Albany Road will not be served.
Nos 6/6A, 18/18A to Tanyard Farm and Tile Hill South will be diverted via Upper Well Street, Holyhead Road, Four Pounds Avenue and Queensland Avenue. Corporation Street (beyond Upper Well Street), Croft Road, The Butts, Spon End and Hearsall Lane will not be served.
The work to fill in the junction 7 subway will be completed overnight on 15th/16th November (9pm-6am).
The plan for the new layout of junction 7 is shown below.

Lord Mayor Joins Marathon Grandad for Charity Walk
Next Tuesday, 9 August, Lord Mayor Cllr Kevin Maton will join 72-year-old local man Tony Cunningham’s year-long sponsored walk to raise money for Warwick charity, Molly Ollys.
If you want to see Tony, Kevin and his wife and Lady Mayoress, Angela, tackle a few laps together on Tuesday they will be at the War Memorial Park at 9am to tackle some laps of the park, starting from the large pavilion near the tennis courts and bowling greens.
Tony, who underwent a quadruple heart bypass, is this year walking at least 10 miles a day every day to raise funds for the charity which emotionally supports children across the UK who have life-threatening illnesses.
Tony took on the challenge in memory of his wife of 47 years who lost her battle with lung cancer last year and so far, he’s walked more than 2,800 miles and raised over £5,000.
As well as supporting Tony’s fundraising, the Lord Mayor is asking people to donate to his own chosen charities – CRASAC (the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre), the Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Molly Ollys was established following the death of Rachel and Tim Ollerenshaw’s eight-year-old daughter Molly from a rare kidney cancer and marks its tenth anniversary this year.
The charity supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. It donates wishes, helps with emotional support and it donates therapeutic toys and books to children directly and through hospitals across the UK.
Rachel says “Tony is such a legend. When he vowed to walk 10 miles a day, every day of 2022, I was astounded as that is a huge challenge. But he often walks 13 or 14 miles a day, so he has clocked up way more miles than he first intended! We are extremely grateful for the funds he has raised and the awareness of the Charity that he has created and it is lovely that the Lord Mayor has shown his support by undertaking the challenge.”
