Residents around Beechwood Avenue and Styvechale Avenue have received letters from Coventry City Council to warn of potential disruption while work is carried out to install new highway gullies and kerb drains.
The work will be carried out for approximately three weeks from 1 September, between the hours of 7.30am and 4.30pm. More details are in the letter, opposite.
It has been made clear by the Council that while it would be helpful if Beechwood Avenue could be avoided while the work takes place, the road will remain open with traffic subject to delays.
Coventry musician Dan Gascoigne, who performs regularly in the ECHO area, releases his second album, Blind Duty with a show at the Nursery Tavern, Lord Street on Saturday 29 August.
Dan has spent the last year working on the album in his front room using acoustic guitar, voice and a vocal effects pedal. Combining new guitar tunings, a more aggressive vocal approach than previously and playing styles ranging from fingerpicking to heavy strumming, he has produced a more upbeat sound than on his début, last year’s Station Street West.
The launch gig starts at 8pm and support comes from Little Bird.
The Old Clarence pub is raising funds for Myton Hospice on Saturday 29 August, when they present Clarencefest, a day of music and other entertainment for the whole family. Full details are shown in the flyer, right.
The radio programme featuring Coventry Singer Songwriters (see ECHO’s August cover story) is broadcast this morning at 10.30 on BBC Radio 4 FM. If you miss the show, it will be available to hear via BBC iPlayer for a further 28 days: Will Gompertz Gets Creative: Hit Songs and Love Songs
Cllr Allan Andrews has sent a message to residents re the travellers camped on Spencer Park:
”You may have seen the Saturday edition of the Coventry Telegraph which featured an article about me calling for an injunction to prevent this type of illegal encampment. The way we manage it so far is purely reactionary – although I do thank Council Officers for dealing with these issues pretty quickly when they arise.
We do, however, need a solution and I’ll be having further discussions this week with Officers, together with Ken Taylor, as we seek to address this matter.
A notice to leave has been issued and the Council is in court tomorrow to seek an eviction. Unfortunately, these matters always take some time and the mess the Park is currently in is not ideal and will take time to put right once they have vacated the site.
This has been a very frustrating process and I just wanted to let you know that we are trying to deal with it. Any issues relating to the travellers or general issues of anti-social behaviour needs to be reported to the Police on 101 as this helps them to build a picture of the problems caused, if any”.
